Disease free life is called happy life. In this modern century, we are enjoying the advancement of technology and science. At present we are ignoring the drawbacks in it and today’s our world is facing huge global warming because of the pollution in the earth. The pollution is damaging the layer of the atmosphere and when the layer is completely damaged then CFC or chlorofluorocarbon enters directly into the earth. And that gas is very poisonous and can damage all the living beings in the earth. And the pollution not only affects the atmosphere but also humans, the people who are inhaling the polluted air are suffering from many respiratory problems and lung disease. Air is the purest form which is produced by the shaking of trees and plants and if the impurity surrounding us and mixes with the air then it results in impure air. And added to pollution the air also gets spoiled because of the dust and waste materials in the city. When the garbage is not been disposed properly then city becomes unclean so germs may build around us so when air mixes with those germs and impurities when it inhaled it causes dangerous diseases in humans. In those diseases, the one which is commonly caused due to the virus is called fever. Fever is caused due to the influenza virus the symptoms of the disease is body pain, headache and nausea and vomiting. This disease is common in all the countries in the world. There are many medicines available for fever and it can be completely cured within a single week. Fever comes along with the common cold which has symptoms like cough and cold and running nose. Today common fever has been divided into many types called swine flu, viral fever, and dengue etc. all these disease are caused because of the unclean environment in the city. So to live disease free life one has to clean their environment.
What is normal body temperature?
When a person is affected by fever the doctor first checks his body temperature, the normal body temperature is 37-degree centigrade or 98 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature gets increased from that level then it causes fever or other diseases. The increase in temperature will not only because of fever, but there are some other reasons behind the high temperature.
One main reason for high temperature is a fever and next main reason is heart stroke, this condition is common among elderly adults who are suffering from heart diseases. When high in temperature occurs in heart patients then it has to be medicated at once else it may lead to dangerous effects. Babies and adults who are suffering from chronic health diseases should reach hospitals when their temperature is high or else it may lead to severe problems. One has to take care of their health it is better to cure at the initial stage than to rush in the final minute. So when you feel any disturbance in your body seeks doctor advice and cures it in the early stage.
Human beings are the important creation of universe with various functionalities and important strategies they deliver. Due to the search of thoughts people started innovating many new ideas and technologies by which he started ruling the universe. Medicine is a one such field where many people still admire the miracle starting from the great sage “Sushrutha” who lived in 200BC made a remarkable platform to the medicine invention. Everyday some new drug is invented which supplements the mankind for reliving from many health issues. Still there are many individuals, who are not aware of what is normal body temperature? This question can be answered simply with the new inventions of the medicine and the people behind this technology.
Measuring temperature of human body:
In general the human body temperature can be measured in two ways one is an oral method and another is an internal method. Oral strategy is done throughout by which a measurement device is placed under the tongue and this can be measured and an internal way is by which the measurement is done through rectal or vaginal injection. Normothermia is a scientifically name given for a determining the body temperature. Many documents say that the temperature varies from place to place in a human being. Internal measurement temperature is obviously higher than the oral method of measurement as they are taken from the body cavity. Normal body temperature of a human being is 37.0 °C which is equal to 98.6 °Fahrenheit.
Determining the victim’s disease by temperature:
Temperature of a human body can be influenced by many factors it may differ according to the environmental conditions, climatic conditions and also based on the age of patients. The body temperature was first indicated by a general physician Dr.Carl in the 19th century and there after the thermometer is used to indicate the same. Many researches were made in the world to determine what the normal body temperature is by the United States on 100s of patients and the average temperature of 36.8Centigrate is deducted. Normal body temperature is determined by keeping the thermometer in the armpit of the patient which will be gradually lesser than the actual oral or internal measurements.
Many records of research made in the united states says that the body temperature of the human body may be based on five categories they are the patients, the age of the victim, the nature of job that they are doing, the time of the day or the climatic condition of a place and the part of the body from which the temperature is measured by. These constraints tell clearly about the person’s nature and temperature of the victim. Furthermore nature of a person may also include the nature of disease they are affected with. The general physicians use the thermometer to determine the temperature of the patients and also based on the temperature the victim is treated. Drinking fresh water keeping his body always clean and neat makes him to protect from the rise in body temperature. And if the temperature of body increases results in many diseases like fever and lowering the level of temperature may even cause death.
There is a lot of confusion since the 19th century result stated by the German physician Dr Carl Wunderlich on what is normal body temperature for a person. While he stated that 37 degree Celsius (°C) or 98.6 Degree Fahrenheit (°F) as the normal temperature, with the passage of time, doctors stated otherwise. They claimed that the normal body temperature which is otherwise called as normothermia or euthermia and especially in the doctor’s circle is 36.8 °C with a few changes around the last decimal to 0.4 °C. This is an equivalent of 98.2 °F with a correction of 0.7 °F to the last decimal.
Factors influencing the reading
The range of the temperature can range widely based on the place where the thermometer is placed to take the temperature. A thermometer is a device that is used to take the internal body temperature of a person without getting affected largely from the outside environment. But this can also affect the reading hugely if a person does not take good care on handling the thermometer. For example, if a person keeps the thermometer on an ice bucket filled with ice and directly keeps it under the tongue of a person to take the reading, then the actual temperature reading can be affected. Apart from this, if they place the thermometer without ensuring that the mercury is at 0 °F, then there is a probability of a faulty reading. Also, the same issue can occur when the manufacturing firm does not calibrate the thermometer properly. Apart from this, if they place the instrument to a different person without shaking them effectively to ensure the position of the mercury to the lowest value, even then, chances of a wrong temperature can be obtained. Thus the question of what is normal body temperature will be different when the temperature is noted during these times.
Apart from this, the gender of the person, their age, the location that they are in along with the time of the day the reading is noted, activity that they had been doing before taking the reading, and also the place where the thermometer is placed on the human to take the reading can also have a huge impact on the reading of the body temperature. Reason is that, as people get older their body temperatures gradually decrease compared to the standard temperature for a person. What might be a normal temperature for a young adult can actually be a high fever for the elderly people? Also, men are more prone to having a higher temperature than women and hence even this can have an impact on the normal temperature for a person. The place and activity done by a person can also have a huge impact. For example, people who work as chefs have a huge chance of having a higher temperature even if they feel that they are normal. Hence, considering all such factors that are mentioned above, doctors of this era have concluded that the normal body temperature for a person could range from 36.5 °C – 37.5 °C or 97.7 °F – 99.5 °F.
Having a lower than normal body temperature, depending on how many degrees, may be considered a hypothermic condition. Hypothermia is having a body temperature that is below the normal body temperature range of 36 to 37°C (96.8 to 98.6°F). A low body temperature may occur due to different external factors. Prolonged exposure to cold weather, taking cold baths, or swimming in a cold pool can cause a person’s temperature to drop and make him feel cold. However, hypothermic conditions may not always lead to a medical emergency or condition when the body is promptly warmed up after the cold exposure.
Hypothermia is only considered significant if the body temperature falls below 35°C (95°F), and it is considered as severe if the temperature falls below 32°C (90°F). Hypothermic conditions that require medical attention are those that are accompanied by other signs and symptoms that indicate a compromised physical state due to the cold temperature, usually resulting from an accident or physical distress.
The following are the common signs and symptoms that indicate a hypothermic condition that needs medical treatment:
- Slow pulse or absence thereof
- Slow breathing patterns or absence thereof
- Unconsciousness or unresponsiveness
- Slurred speech
- Staggering gait
- Cold and clammy skin that may also blotch
Severe Hypothermia may also cause internal body changes like the following:
- Changes in the level of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood
- Changes in blood chemistry
- Irregular or arrhythmic heart beats
- Differences or changes in deep tissue and superficial tissue temperature
If a person is suspected to be suffering from severe hypothermia, prompt intervention and first aid should be given to prevent the condition from worsening. Below are the initial steps that you may take to help or aid a person with hypothermia:
- Call for help. You should dial 911 or call other emergency medical agencies for help if you observe signs and symptoms of severe hypothermia.
- Slowly warm the body. If a person is suffering hypothermia from prolonged exposure to the cold, it would be dangerous if you suddenly warm him down directly with warm objects. You must first take the person indoors, away from the cold. Dry him off if he was immersed in cold water for a long time by removing wet clothing and covering him in dry clothes or towels. Begin warming him by starting with the trunk first, not the limbs or extremities. Warming the hands and feet first may cause the person to go into a state of shock. Use a warm compress or warm bottle wrapped in a clean towel or cloth and press on the person’s chest. Do not give a warm bath by immersing him in warm water. Again, warm the trunk first before proceeding with warming the extremities.
- Perform CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) if the person is unconscious and not breathing or if you feel no pulse. CPR should be done while warming the person.
- If the person is still awake or conscious, give him warm fluids. Do not give warm coffee or any drink with caffeine and alcoholic beverages.
- Keep the person warm by wrapping him in thick blankets. Expose less of the person’s skin to preserve body heat.
- Follow-up medical help. A medical team should arrive at the area after several minutes. If it takes them too long, dial 911 again to follow-up and ensure that a medical team gets there on time.
Severe hypothermia should be managed properly. Otherwise, prolonged hypothermia may cause body cells and tissues to die because of interruption in blood flow or circulation. This is because the extreme cold can cause the blood to clot and stagnate inside the blood vessels.
